Earth Day In Orlando

Earth Day falls on April 22nd and here in Orlando there’s plenty to take in to celebrate and appreciate the only home we have.

The 12th Annual Central Florida Earth Day has lots of scheduled activities for everyone, with fun and educational stuff to do throughout the entire day. It’s hosted at Lake Eola Park (the east side) and runs from 10am through 6pm. It’s the largest and longest-running Earth Day festival in town!
There’ll be speakers discussing topics such as “Climate Justice & Science In An Age Of Denial” and “From Toxic to Sacred Farming.” There’s also food preparation demonstrations dealing with everything from raw vegan foods to curry to bananas!  There’s an Earth Kids Zone with storytelling, dancing and singing, yoga, and even an awards ceremony.
And the fun doesn’t stop there! There’s an Acoustic music stage which will feature everything from folk to Latin to indie soul as well as a Band music stage with local bands like Bad Fixes, Conflicting Motive and The Cruz Brothers.  There’s also (I know! There’s TONS going on!!) a Yoga area where Warrior One Power Yoga will be holding sessions including meditations all day.

The March For Science: Orlando will also happen on Earth Day (very appropriate!). Marchers will congregate in the Northeast Lawn of Lake Eola Park starting at 10:00 a.m. The march will then proceed to the Amphitheater at 11am for speakers. Marchers will return to Central Florida Earth Day around 12pm.

Also taking place in Orlando on Earth Day is the Earth Day Wildlife Weekend event, happening on both Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 2pm. The CARE Foundation is a not-for-profit exotic animal rescue and wildlife education facility who normally only offer private tours so this weekend is a great opportunity to see the facility and learn about their animals. There’ll also be volunteers available to answer questions as well as several animal demonstrations and experiences. Limited petting, feeding and photo opportunities will also be available.

If you’re looking for things to do that evening, head on over to the Earth Day Bash hosted by Urban E Recycling. Running from 7pm-11pm at 5508 M. 50th St., you’ll find e-scrap art on display and e-scrap music!

However you celebrate Earth Day in Orlando we wish you a great time. The future of our planet is in our hands so let’s take it seriously and do what we can to leave it in a MUCH better place than which we found it!
